Weekend happenings before October ends
First off, Mozilla has released Firefox 2. Haven’t really read the release notes but I upgraded anyway. My G5 at home didn’t like the new update but my MBP did. I’m sure it’s plugin related. I just didn’t have time to go through the plugin list at home to check which is the one causing Firefox not to display right. If you want to get it, download it from this site.
Saturday, E finally got his Apple iMac. He picked up a 20″ Core 2 Duo. Nice machine! Comes with a 1GB ram, DVD-RW, 250GB drive and no problems that you get with Windoze. One less person to worry about, yes! My mission is to have all of my friends switch to Apple so that I don’t have to be bothered fixing them. I already have too many things I have to take care of. Now to see who’s next on my list.

More pics to come later.
Finally, yesterday was Acurazine‘s BBQ meet. Pretty good turn out. Saq 2 NSXs, a supercharged 3rd Gen TL, and a really nice media jukebox that I’m thinking of getting to swap out my DVD player. Here’s some teasers of the event…

The rest of the album can be viewed on my gallery.
MCR – The Black Parade
Thanks E for reminding me about this CD. I’ve been waiting a minute for a new album by My Chemical Romance. Hip hop is dead (as Skillz would talk about in his latest single). Which is why I’ve been crossing over back and forth but mostly been on the alternative side and some 70s-90s. But anyway, if you haven’t heard the new album, pick it up. It’s called The Black Parade and it was released today.

Verizon FIOS…
I spent the weekend over at my cousin’s house. They have Verizon FIOS as their DSL provider. Now I have a co-worker who has had this service since it was available in his area and he was just amazed at the speed. It was hard for me to believe until this weekend when I ran some tests at my cousin’s house. Below is a screenshot from DSL Reports speed test.

I was consistently getting about the same speed each test. Amazing! My cousin is paying $39.99 a month. Compared to my Adelphia/Time Warner cable service which I get about 2,500 Kbps down and 256 Kbps up for $44.99 a month. Wish I can get Verizon but in my area, SBC is the DSL provider.
By the way, here’s what we get at work.

Yahoo! mail beta
Yahoo! Asia email accounts had the ability to try out the mail beta before US accounts did; and finally I get a chance. It reminds me of the Gmail interface and Mail on my OS X. You can use keyboard shortcuts to do different things (ie. delete button will delete the selected email, pressing the N key will take you to a create new message screen. Also, you can drag messages into folders now, rather than putting a check and selecting the move option in the drop down menu.
More and more online applications are starting to mimic software ran on your local computer. I think it’s great. Because it is online, it allows users great flexibility. Imagine using applications without worrying about hardware requirements. All you need is an internet connection and a browser – doesn’t matter what OS you are running either.
One thing I did notice is it is slower than the old version. You can always switch back. There is a link on top of the page that will do so. It is beta, so ensure there are bugs
