Saw the Lexus ISF today… pics

On the way to work there was a black IS behind me. At first I thought it was either the 250 or 350 but the front grill looked different. So I let it pass me to get a better look to see if any other mods have been added. To my surprise all the badges have been taped and the quad exhaust. Then it hit me that it was the new Lexus ISF. It was very nice. I grabbed for my phone to take pics. After the third pic, the driver took off. Ain’t no way I’m catching up to a 400hp, V8 car. Here’s some pics.

Apple Airport Extreme, Palm TX, WEP security solution

I just picked up a new Apple Airport Extreme. To my surprise Abby’s Palm TX doesn’t want to play nice with it. The TX was released late 2005 and has yet to receive any updates regarding the growing new WIFI security standards. Currently, it only handles up to 104bit WEP. What makes it worse is the Airport Extreme hides the 40bit option for WEP security. It only shows the 128bit option. Anyways, to solve this problem, refer to this post by EricSan. It tells you how to enable the 40bit WEP option. You won’t be able to use the N technology though and it’s a lower security. I hoping for at least 1 of 2 things to happen: 1) Abby gets off her lazy but and uses the computer right in front of our bed or 2) Palm releases a patch to address the new security technology.

By the way, I also tried the WPA security. When using this, the router will give you a 64 character paraphrase to enter on the Palm. Unfortunately, the box to enter this only handles 63. Get it together Palm!

On a side note, if you are going to call Palm support, make sure you ask for at least a level 2 support. I spent 32 minutes with their level 1 support (aka I got this job coz I know how to answer a phone) and here’s what happened:

- level 1 support: Okay what’s the problem you are having

- me: I can’t connect to my new Airport Extreme router using WEP security. It works without the security. But when I enable either WEP or WPA security, I can’t connect anymore. My G5, MBP, PSP, and a Windows XP machine can connect with any configuration. I’ve tried … blah blah blah

- level 1 support: Okay hold on for a second and I will see what my manager says

… 1-2 minutes later

- level 1 support: Try … blah blah

- me: Okay (I tried it anyway even though I know it won’t work

… etc etc for 32 minutes.

Change servers

This past week has been a busy one. I finally decided to drop my reseller server and emailed all my friends (who I hosted for free) to find another host. I was planning on going with Dreamhost since they offered WebDav and both PHP 4 & 5 support. The only problem is that the past year or so they have more negative feedback than ever before. Most of them were related to reliability and email. So then I decided to stick with my current provider Host For Web. They have a $9.99/month plan but FTP access is slow. I tried a lower plan for 2 days but figured I’ll go with GoDaddy. Even though they don’t have WebDav support, I’ll be using Box.net. They provide WebDav service for free. Why do I need WebDav? For iCal, of course – so that I can synchronize my calendar between multiple Macs. Google does have their calendar and it’s web based so that solves viewing updated data in multiple locations but it doesn’t synchronize the info onto my Nokia N80. iSync synchronizes contacts and calendar via bluetooth onto my cell phone.

Anyway, I’m with GoDaddy now which is why there were times that this site was down or parked. The DNS was propagating. On top of the lower price, I found some coupons online too. I’ll probably be moving the rest of my domains over this weekend and canceling the other account. On top of that, GoDaddy gives you free hosting with a domain purchase. Only thing is you get ads, which is fine for me since some of my domains are for developing and testing anyone – and you can choose between Linux or Windows.

Wii finally found a Wii

Well, we’ve only started looking for a week. We saw one at Fry’s but they were selling it in a package. The package came with another controller, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, charge station, and a warranty. All this for $460. I was a little upset on how they threw in that warranty. I wouldn’t mind paying for the package since I will be using the items included – except that warranty. Other stores like Game Stop are also doing the package thing with the warranty.

We then went to a Walmart. They are not doing the package deal in the store but are online. They also had a return the night we went. It was tempting but they were selling it for the same price even though it was a return. So we went home empty handed. The next day we decided to go back and get it since it was so hard to find. Well, somebody bought it.

So last week we went to another Walmart to buy some stuff. We checked out the electronics section and to our surprise we saw at least 10 Wii boxes. At first we thought they were empty display boxes but when we asked an associate, she said they are the Wiis. We didn’t hesitate. We bought the one with the Wii Sports. The game is very fun. What I recommend those who don’t have a second remote or are planning on buying a Wii is to buy the Wii Play. Another controller costs about $39 but the game itself is $49 plus it comes with a controller. This game is also a fun one to play. Oh and a warning, don’t play next to anything. I’ve already spilled a glass of water while playing the bowling game.
