Software

Published by Sherwin

This page has links to free, useful software. If you have any to add, please let me know.

OS X - 10.5.x

Adium - All in one IM client. It’s highly customizable from themes, fonts, alerts, etc. Too bad there’s still no web cam support

AppDelete - An uninstaller for OS X. I haven’t tried it yet but will soon

Audacity - This app will let you edit music files such as mp3, wav, aiff, and ogg. Yes you can use Garageband if you have it, but don’t you hate that you can only export into iTunes? I know I do. I use this to create mp3 ringtones for my cell phone. Lamelib is a separate download if you want to export to mp3

Chicken of the VNC - A vnc program for OS X

CHMOX - View CHM files (Microsoft Compressed HTML files) on OS X

Clutter - How do I get those album covers on iTunes so that I can display them on my iPod? This program is your answer

Cyberduck - GUI FTP client app. It has a nice interface, a little buggy at times but hey, anyone else have a free FTP client app that has a GUI?

ffmpegX - Video/audio encoder

Firefox - One of the best, if not the best, browser ever made - at least for me it is

Handbrake - HandBrake is a GPL’d multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 ripper/converter. I use this for iPod and PSP purposes

iTerm - Nicer Terminal app

Komodo Edit - A free editor for PHP, Perl, Javascript, etc

Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection - If you still have Windows machines on the network, you may connect to them using this app. This is what I use to connect to my server if I’m too lazy to go to it

MPEG Streamclip - Video converter software for both Mac and Windows

Portable Apps - This page lists all open source apps for OS X that will run off your USB flash drives or memory cards. If you haven’t check out portable software yet, have flash drives, and use multiple computers, you should. Makes things alot more efficient

Thunderbird - It’s an email client app but will also handle RSS feeds. RSS support is buggy. Nice app though since there’s a portable app version for it. It’s really great at handling emails

The Unarchiver -Unzips many different file formats for OS X

VLC - A video player that will play almost all video formats

Yahoo Messenger - Yahoo is finally working on an update to their very buggy version 2.5.3. The beta version now supports iSight. I find this app restarting frequently though. But still the best solution to chatting with Yahoo buddies and using your iSight

Windows XP

Ad-Aware - A must have for Windows users or something similar. This program is a spyware remover. If you ask me, the best spyware remover is not to use Windows ;)

Bit Tornado - Software that will download torrent files

DVDFab Decrypter - A DVD decrypter program

DVD Shrink - Great program to rip DVDs onto your hard drive. All you need is a software to burn it

Filezilla - This is a free FTP server and client for Windows

Firefox - Great browser for Windows

Foxit Reader - Light-weight PDF reader. This program doesn’t load all the unnecessary plugins that Adobe reader does, so it loads up very quickly

LAMP/WAMP - The link is a description of the software. It’s great to run tests or just experience Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL environment without compromising your current system environment

Sunbird - A calendar program from Mozilla. Great for those who wish iCal was made for Windows

TightVNC - Allows you to control another computer remotely
